Wake County Traffic Violation Insurance Points
The North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) has enacted a separate system of points for use in the insurance industry in Raleigh and Wake County, Chapel Hill and Orange County, and the rest of our great State. Insurance points are different from driver’s license points. Instead of counting towards penalties on an individual’s license, insurance points help determine the individual’s insurance rates.
The issuance of insurance points is required by the North Carolina Safe Driver Insurance Plan (SDIP), an act designed to reward safe drivers with lower insurance rates than drivers who have been in accidents and committed various driving infractions such as speeding. insurance points are determined on a rolling 3-year period that is termed an “experience period.” The more insurance points an individual accumulates, the higher his/her insurance rates are.
